TEMERLOH: Unlike the Opposition’s loose Pakatan Rakyat coalition, Barisan Nasional is a strong union of component parties, said MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said while Pakatan parties cooperated with each other only during the elections, Barisan worked together “all the time”.

“Pakatan just wants to paint a picture that the country has a two-party system,” he said.

“In reality, it is full of weaknesses,” he told reporters after visiting Sultan Ahmad Shah Hospital here yesterday.

Liow, who is also Health Minister, said each party in Pakatan fought for its own ideology with only short-term plans and no long-term action.

“As for Barisan, we are committed in fighting for the people’s cause, regardless of their race and religion.

“This is what binds us together,” he said.

“Umno, MCA and MIC and others in the coalition sacrifice their own interests for the sake of everyone. We are a genuine coalition.”

On Barisan component party LDP’s repeated public criticisms against the state leadership and Umno Sabah, Liow warned against the use of any racial sentiment.

“It is sensitive and at the end of the day, everyone will lose. There will be no winner.”
