Remain close to the people, PM reminds BN MPs

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak reminded Barisan Nasional MPs on Tuesday to focus to maintain closeness with the people by keeping in constant touch with them.

Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the prime minister gave the reminder at the routine pre-council meeting ahead of the Dewan Rakyat session.

Dr Rais said Najib also reminded the MPs of their responsibility to serve as a bastion against allegations hurled by opposition political parties.

He said the opposition was harping on the issue of the uprising in Egypt that toppled President Hosni Mubarak and was associating that event with the situation in Malaysia.

"Although the uprising there does not apply here due to the varying situation, explanations must be given lest there be people with extremist tendencies who fall for the opposition's propaganda," Dr Rais told reporters after the meeting.

The meeting, of about an hour at the Level 2 Briefing Room at Parliament House, was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and other Cabinet ministers. - Bernama

（霹靂‧怡保7日訊）馬華將在未來一兩個月內，專注解決華文改制中學的問題。

馬華總會長拿督斯里蔡細歷表示，馬華不敢說將在這項問題上做到十全十美，但將盡力而為，不辜負華社對馬華的期望。

蔡細歷昨晚出席怡保培南華小籌募遷校基金聯歡晚宴致詞說，馬華最近收集了不少改制中學的資料，準備會見首相拿督斯里納吉和副首相丹斯里慕尤丁。

蔡細歷說，之前因有數場補選，納吉和慕尤丁都很忙碌，目前隨著補選結束，馬華有信心，接下來可以很專注地解決改制中學的問題。

他承認，馬華和政府過去忽略了改制中學，因此目前將盡力解決改制中學的問題。

他表示，馬華瞭解到，華社對馬華的期望很高，但馬華不敢作出種種承諾，因馬華身為執政黨，不像反對黨般作出各項不能兌現的承諾。

統考成績申請師訓今年料可實行

蔡細歷有信心，獨中畢業生以統考成績申請進入師訓學院的措施，將於今年內實行。

在宴會上，蔡細歷也見證教育部副部長拿督魏家祥移交教育部的300萬令吉撥款給培南華小董事長陳錦彬，陪同人士包括遷委會執行顧問拿督林國璋、遷委會主席姚添進、霹靂州行政議員拿督馬漢順、培南華小校長王詩貽、第二財長拿督斯里阿末胡斯尼政治秘書阿米魯丁。

引進印度外勞
不符一個大馬概念

也是國陣總協調的蔡細歷，較後在新聞發佈會上，針對人力資源部長拿督蘇巴馬廉最近宣佈，本地印裔商人可聘請印度外勞的事認為，這是一項不正確的措施，不符合一個馬來西亞的概念。

他認為，蘇巴馬廉身為人資部長，應該致力解決勞工短缺的問題，同時為全民進行爭取，而非單單為印裔商人爭取引進印度外勞。他將針對此事向政府反映。

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional's convincing wins in the Merlimau and Kerdau state by-elections by larger majorities are an endorsement of the coalitions's leadership and rejection of the Opposition and PAS' Islamic concept, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"The wins are an endorsement of the changes brought about by the Prime Minister which are being accepted by the people," he told reporters after the result of the Merlimau by-election was announced at Politeknik Merlimau in Jasin Sunday.

Barisan's Roslan Ahmad won the Merlimau seat with an increased majority of 3,643 votes, polling 5,962 votes, while Yuhaizad Abdullah (PAS) garnered 2,319 votes.

Meanwhile, Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad retained the Kerdau seat for Barisan with an increased majority of 2,724 votes. He garnered 5,060 votes to beat PAS’ Hassanuddin Salim, who received 2,336 votes.

In Temerloh, Syed Ibrahim, 44, said he was humbled by the voters' overwhelming support, adding that his win was due to the Barisan government's policies.

"I am grateful to Allah. I also thank all the voters," he said after being announced as the new assemblyman for Kerdau at the Temerloh Municipal Council.

He also thanked the Barisan machinery which extended from top leaders to the grassroot members.

Sunday's double victory means Barisan has won eight of the 16 by-elections held since the general election in 2008, five of them in a row.

The ruling coalition had won the Batu Sapi parliamentary seat, and Galas and Tenang state seats before this.

Its three earlier victories were in Bagan Pinang, Batang Ai and Hulu Selangor.

2：0 國陣得"道" 民聯失"望"

（吉道、馬六甲6日綜合訊）國陣在萬里望和吉道州席補選中狂勝，多數票也比308大選時還多，各族選票也回流國陣。

在吉道州席補選，國陣候選人賽依布拉欣也以狂風掃落葉的姿態，擊敗回教黨候選人哈沙努丁；賽依布拉欣得5060票，哈沙努丁獲2336票，多數票是2724張。

多數票增

在2008全國大選中，國陣在吉道州席得4135票，多數票是1615張。

在萬里望州席補選，國陣候選人羅斯蘭阿末以3643張多數票，大勝回教黨候選人尤海查。

羅斯蘭阿末得5962票，尤海查得2319票，廢票135張；國陣取得的多數票，比308大選時的2154張票多1489張。

華裔回流

值得一提的是，國陣在吉道和萬里望州席補選獲得的多數票，比回教黨候選人得票還多，被形容打了一場有史以來最漂亮的仗，是今次兩場補選的大贏家。

消息指出，這兩個州席的各族選民，包括華裔選票，已紛紛回流國陣。

MELBOURNE: Australia-based companies have expressed keen interest in increasing investments in Malaysia after they were showed the window of opportunities under the government's Economic Transformation Plan (ETP).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who had a roundtable meeting with more than 20 captains of industry in Australia here Friday, told them of the transformation programmes being initiated in Malaysia and the huge investment opportunities available.

The Prime Minister also intently listened to their problems.

"They were very keen to increase their investments in Malaysia after I explained to them our Economic Transformation Plan, the extent of investments we needed.

“They expressed interest in increasing investments in certain sectors," he told Malaysian journalists before concluding his three-day visit to Australia.

Some 200 companies with Australian interests are currently operating in Malaysia.

As at Dec 31, last year, Australian investments in Malaysia totalled US$715.7mil. Companies with investments in Malaysia include Ansell, ANZ, Leighton, Rio Tinto, Bluescope Steel and Ryco Hydraulics.

Najib said the ANZ Bank had stated its interest to increase its 23 percent stake in AMMB Holdings while Rio Tinto had made enquiries on its plan to invest in an aluminium smelter in Sarawak.

A company from Queensland also voiced interest to secure Petronas' higher participation in that company.

Currently, the Malaysian oil corporation owns about 20 percent stake in a liquefied natural gas project in Queensland.

On the proposed Malaysia-Australia Free Trade Agreement (MAFTA) slated to be signed within a year, Najib, who is also Finance Minister, said that it would boost trade flow between the two countries.

Asked about contentious issues within MAFTA that needed to be ironed out, Najib said: "Let the negotiators do their work."

Kuala Lumpur and Canberra are looking at wrapping up MAFTA in a year following the meeting between Najib and his Australian counterpart Julia Gillard in Canberra on Thursday. - Bernama

魏家祥：行动党骂人功夫一流，却对自家问题无能为力

（吉隆坡3日讯）马青总团长拿督魏家祥博士今日挑战行动党在民联执政州属落实所有公平及多元对待各族群的政策，才到吉道及万里茂双补选批评马华。

魏家祥指出，吉兰丹政府在州内全面禁赌，包括全面禁止在州内售卖彩券的措施，已经证明了回教党在逐步落实回教化的政策。全面禁赌的政策，已经触犯了其他族群的自由，更何况中央政府并没有明文规定赌博是犯法的。

“行动党却一再对回教党的行为不闻不问，到底行动党是不敢过问？还是他们其实是支持回教党的这一系列回教化？行动党有必要站出来表明态度，因为行动党根本在背弃建设多元社会的承诺。”

魏家祥指出，限制州内所有的星级酒店不能出售酒的做法，势必打击旅游业，更会让国外游客误认大马已经成为神权回教国的象征。

挑战行动党铲除州内弊端，揶揄民联爱推搪塞责

魏家祥指出，雪州大臣宣布将不改组州内阁，证明雪州政府根本不敢撤换有问题的行政议员。

“比如刘天球这名问题议员，一再爆出负面丑闻，从拨款不当、支持信风波、被指勾结黑帮、到禁挂‘一个马来西亚’标志商业广告牌，面对多项行政不当的指控却稳坐行政议员职位，让人民无法接受。另外，回教党雪州主席哈山阿里曾经要求便利商店禁售酒类，回教党根本就没有放弃落神权回教国的想法，也完全违背行动党声称要建立开明多元社会的承诺。但雪州大臣却没有撤换他们。”

“雪州至今也无法解决偷沙的课题，事情调查至今也没有任何一方为此事负起责任。行动党如果要批评马华，请先要求吉打州废除70%的房屋固打制，和重建被州政府铲除的宰猪场，才来指责别人。”

魏家祥抨击民联执政的州属，冒出的多项对华社不利政策，而行动党完全不敢质疑这些政策，一再证明民联无法落实公平公正的多元政策。他挑战行动党先对民联州属的弊端呛声，而不应该在面对民联内部或党内时懦弱无能，却在外面大声骂马华向人民逞英雄。

日本文部科學省獎學金‧2組別獎學金接受申請

（吉隆坡1日訊）由日本政府所頒發的2012年度文部科學省獎學金，將從3月1日開始接受申請，計有兩組獎學金開放予所有符合以下資格的馬來西亞公民申請。

此項獎學金優惠包括學費、考試費、報名費以及在日本修讀一年或半年日語課程的學費全免；同時每位保送生還可領取每月大約12萬5千日圓（大學學士學位課程）至15萬2千日圓（研究所碩士或博士學位課程）的生活津貼及來回吉隆坡―日本的機票。

此獎學金的組別及申請條件如下：

●大學學士學位課程（為期5或7年，並於2012年4月開課）
1.凡2012年4月1日前年齡介於17至22歲之間者；
2.受過至少11年的正統教育，擁有大馬教育文憑的畢業生；或是
3.大馬高級學校文憑（STPM）或A水平或統考文憑或Diploma文憑的在籍學生。

●研究所碩士或博士學位課程（為期1年半，2年或以上，於2012年4月或10月開課）
1.在2012年4月1日前年齡不超過35歲者；
2.曾受過至少16年的正統教育（不包括預科班）以及擁有大學學士學位（一等或二等甲榮譽學位為佳），大學最後一年生亦可申請。
